BIOREME - a year in review

We can’t believe it’s been a year already since we launched our network, it’s been fantastic to have engaged with so many people from different research disciplines and industries, we’ve reflected on some highlights below:

  • We have grown our multi-disciplinary member community and provided funding and networking opportunities.

  • Our small collaboration grants have supported researchers to participate in cross-disciplinary activities eg. conference attendance, international lab visits and international research meetings.

  • In Sept 2022, we delivered our first research sandpit event on “Understanding Long COVID” and are supporting subsequent grant development workshops.

  • Asthma+Lung UK have supported the network to ensure the patient voice runs through all our activities. They facilitated patient focus groups and are supporting a wider patient survey.

  • The BIOREME team have participated in some brilliant outreach and engagement activities including attending the British Science Festival 2022, school careers days and we developed a video animation to explain the research challenges our network is working to address for the general public.

We look forward to further growth and success in 2023 and encourage your engagement with our upcoming activities:

  • We encourage researchers of PhD candidate level and above to participate in a mathematical study group working on a real-world challenge presented by Industry or Clinical reps. The challenges will be published at the end of February 2023. The event takes place on 17 - 20 April 2023 at The University of Sheffield and is hosted in collaboration with Industrial Maths KTN Innovate UK and Insigneo Institute.

  • Our second Fellowship call will open on the 20th February. This funding will support an ECR to complete a 1 year PDRA in a relevant research area.

  • We are in the early stages of planning a research sandpit for summer 2023. This will based on Advanced healthcare technologies: respiratory medicine aligned to BIOREME’s key research theme area 1.

  • We will be running a series of themed focus groups with industry representatives to better understand their priorities and opportunities for future collaboration.
