Our mission

To catalyse new research partnerships that use mathematics to solve problems in respiratory medicine.

BIOREME is a UK network open to people working in academia, medicine, industry, and charity who are interested in the applications of mathematical modelling to lung health and respiratory medicine.

Lung disease is a monumental health challenge with 12.7M people in the UK suffering from chronic respiratory illnesses. Lung diseases are responsible for >700,000 hospital admissions, >6 million inpatient bed-days each year, and a death every 5 minutes. The NHS burden is exacerbated by COVID and enormous increases in COVID-related chronic conditions.

Our aim is to catalyse research in these areas that will result in new technologies and treatments, as well as better understanding, of lung disease. To achieve this, we host events including sandpits, workshops, forums and webinars to bring multi-disciplinary researchers together with industry and patient representatives. Furthermore, we offer several funding opportunities to help get new research projects off the ground.
