Our Fellowship scheme is now closed for applications

  • Funding to cover salary of ECR for up to 18 months (< 3 year experience post PhD)

Funding towards travel and sustenance costs to support activities to share research outcomes and strengthen / develop collaborations eg. attendance at conferences, workshops, research visits.

Encouraged to develop own research proposal with support from a Mentor at a Host Institution (UK)

Expected to co-develop project with modellers and clinicians or healthcare industry

Must align with BIOREME’s research remit, please visit our four main research themes for guidance. Please note whist these are our main research areas of interest, our remit is broader encompassing research that falls within biophysical/ mechanistic modelling of respiratory diseases.

  • Applicants must have or be on track to obtain a PhD, in a relevant discipline, by the proposed start date. In the case where the candidate has already obtained their PhD, it must have been awarded no more than three years before their proposed start date. Extenuating circumstances will be taken into consideration.

Fellowships must be held at a UK higher education institution/ university and applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the necessary support required.

Whilst applicants are welcome from a variety of disciplines the project proposal must include biophysical/mechanistic lung modelling as an integral component.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Please find below a list of FAQs, these will be updated throughout the call to address common queries that we receive. If you have a question that is not clearly covered in the guidance document or the FAQs below, please email the project team at contact@bioreme.net with your query.

  • In order to be eligible, the project must have a significant modelling component and applicants must i) have a background in modelling and carry out the modelling aspects themselves AND/OR ii) have a mentor or project partner who is able to support the applicant to carry out the modelling aspects including provision of training for the required modelling skills.

  • If you have research experience that amounts to the equivalent of a PhD in another field then we would be happy to accept an application on that basis. However, the other criteria will also have to be adapted slightly when reviewing the application, i.e. if you have held an academic research position that is comparable to a Post-Doctorate for longer than 3 years FTE then you may not be eligible.

  • If you have an idea for a project BIOREME can help to put you in touch with people who might be interested in collaborating with you. Please contact us at contact@bioreme.net

  • We welcome applications on topics that do not align closely with BIOREME’s four priority areas as long as 1) They include a clear component of biophysical lung modelling - mathematical/ computational modelling that simulates physical processes related to the lungs. 2) They can demonstrate either direct benefits to patients or potential for wider impact beyond the projects lifetime eg. onward funding, future collaborations or partnerships.

  • We expect the total funding available can support a Postdoctoral student for up to 18 months. However we acknowledge that depending on the applicants location, experience level and host institution policy, it may be appropriate and justified to apply for a shorter duration. We welcome applications for projects that last between 12 and 18 months duration

  • No the directly incurred and estates/indirect/other costs cannot be interchanged. You can only apply up to the total amount listed in each row for that purpose.

  • Please state your ideal start and end date on the application. The start date you request must allow the project to be completed by the end of Dec 2025 as the funding will expire at this point.
