Advancing Lung Diagnostic Technologies Meeting
On the 16th and 17th of June 2025, researchers, clinicians and industry professionals from across the UK, Canada, Belgium & Germany came together at Halifax Hall, University of Sheffield, for the Advancing Lung Diagnostic Technologies meeting. Co-hosted with the Insigneo Institute, the event brought together approximately 50 attendees for a day of knowledge-sharing, discussion and collaboration.
This conference focused on state-of-the-art approaches in lung diagnostics, with speakers across four areas: Physiological Measurement, Home Monitoring & Smart Devices, Pulmonary Imagine and Integration of Existing Technologies.
Each session features presentations by leading researcher and clinicians, followed by engaging panel discussions to reflect on the clinical and translational impact of the work presented. Topics ranged from the limitations of traditional spirometry and the clinical applications of inert breathe washout techniques, to AI-supported lung diagnostic tools and the innovative use of acoustic monitoring for respiratory conditions. Other key highlights included:
Dr Sanja Stanojevic, University of Dalhousie, on redefining lung function assessment
Dr Erol Gaillard, University of Leicester, on Oscillometry for paediatric asthma
Dr Andreas Voskrebenkov, Hannover Medical School, on Proton Magnetic Resonance for Imaging Lung Function
Prof Chris Brightling, University of Leicester, on the next steps for coordinating lung diagnostic technologies
The day ended with a networking session providing everyone a chance to continue conversations, spark new collaborations and share ideas for the future projects. We extend are thanks to all the speakers, chairs, attendees and organisers. Especially Jenny Rodgers and Anne Canning, whose work on the BIOREME and Insigneo network has been instrumental.
